They Might Be Giants get to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Flood… two years later!

There are some bands that are literally the soundtrack to your life, and They Might Be Giants would have to be one of those top bands for me. My love for TMBG goes back to their 1990 release, Flood.

I don’t even remember how I found them – I likely heard them on the local college radio; however, I quickly fell in love with their nerdy and quirky songs that I just seemed to “get”. Flood would be one of those albums that I played on repeat without skipping a song – singing along with every track word for word.

Of course, They Might Be Giants was more than just their album Flood. That one just always seemed to be my favorite. Fast forward 10 years later to when I started having kids and TMBG’s made their way into my kids’ lives with “Birdhouse in Your Soul” which was one of the songs on the first “mix tape” I ever made for them to listen to when they would go to sleep each night. TMBG also released several albums for kids which my children just loved. They Might Be Giants would be their first ever concert back in 2008, when they toured with the Disney Block Party.

Their diversity of lyrics and style have made them a band for all ages, and it was great to see them again at Rams Head this past night as they celebrated their “delayed” 30 year anniversary of the release of Flood. This show was originally planned for June of 2020, but life had other plans and we finally made it to the party 2 and half years later!

Despite all the setbacks to the tour, the band was in top form and we were pleased to see that they were not performing Flood in order as recorded, rather mixing up the set with a few older songs and new songs, keeping the audience engaged with not knowing what would come next. They performed over 30 songs across two sets ending the night with “Dead”, a perfect song selection to close out the evening. I was fortunate to see this tour 10 years ago at the 930 Club when they performed for the 20th anniversary, but this show was definitely a highlight performance, and I am so grateful to finally get to celebrate Flood’s 30th anniversary with They Might Be Giant fans at Rams Head Live!

Enjoy these photos from the show this past Sunday night, December 19, 2022.
