Clutch Brings “Clutchmas” to the 930 Club on December 29

The end of the year activities in the DMV are all festive and merry, but none make you feel as proud to live here as the annual GWAR and Clutch shows at the 930 Club. This year’s “Clutchmas” was its usual reunion of friends from the area you might not see all year long, but who make this Clutch 9:30 Club show without fail, because Clutch is like local family.

The Frederick, MD band even paid homage to another DC family member, Chuck Brown, using Brown’s “We Need Some Money” as their walk on music. The majority of the set was from the band’s new record, Book of Bad Decisions, full of the sludgey punk for which the band is known.

From the start with “You Can’t Stop Progress,” to the encore ender, a cover of the old Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) song “Fortunate Son,” lead singer Neil Fallon paced the stage, while the unified crowd pogoed and fist-pumped the sky. Christmas may come once and year and it’s all Santa, Jesus, and non-stop Mariah Carey Christmas carols, but for those in the DMV, Clutch and Clutchmas are always one of the best reasons to come home.
