Music is Life and Here is the Proof

This month, the music industry experienced some great losses due to Covid-19. However, in the sadness we find comfort in music. We are so appreciative of the many musicians who are doing what they can to remind us that we are all in this together. Enjoy this little collection of some of my favorite musical internet moments over the last week, as well as some great music you can find online today and tomorrow!

Tim Booth of James

Tim Booth, of James, teamed up with his neighbor for a few acoustic versions of their songs that he performed in his home. Tim Booth recently lost his father-in-law to Covid-19 and shares a heartfelt version of James’ classic, “Sit Down”. Enjoy this wonderful performance.

Song 1: Many Faces
Song 2: (4:25) Sit Down

Carsie Blanton

New Orleans singer/songwriter, Carsie Blanton wrote a beautiful tribute song to John Prine who passed away from Covid-19 this past week. She released this song as a single, but here is a lovely acoustic version of this song, “Fishin’ with You”. Check out her work and be sure to follow her on Facebook.

BBC – Live Lounge Allstars

Dave Grohl along with 28 additional musicians, come together to perform this amazing version of “Times Like These”. This was the highlight of my week. Full list of artists featured at the end of the video!

Third Eye Blind – So Alone So Alive

We absolutely loved this three song performance by Third Eye Blind, creatively coordinated between the band member’s homes.

Song 3: (8:00) Screamer – featuring Alexis Krauss of Sleigh Bells

Funds raised from this one-hour broadcast went to the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund (NJPRF) to battle coronavirus. Artists such as Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Tony Bennett, and more joined in on the live-cast.

A special moment included a performance of the remaining members of Fountains of Wayne, along with Sharon Van Etten, performed “Hackensack” in honor of lead singer, Adam Schlesinger who died a few weeks ago from complications related to Covid-19. Here is a clip of this performance that was shared on Stereogum’s Instagram account.
