Pink Sweat$ Brought his Pink Moon Tour to DC’s 9:30 Club

On 12.3.2021, rising star Pink Sweat$ brought his Pink Moon Tour to DC’s 9:30 Club. The 25 city North American tour started on November 5th in San Diego and will end on December 16th in Dallas. I think it is safe to say that Washington DC is certainly feeling Pink Sweat$, as DC is the only city that had two shows scheduled (12.3 and 12.4); both shows sold out. Opening for Pink Sweat$ at the 9:30 Club were the talented and up and coming R&B artists Bren Joy and Kirby. They each performed for about 30 minutes and got the crowd ready for the main event.

Pink Sweat$ is 29 years old and grew up in Philadelphia, PA. He grew up in a Christian household as his father is a minister and mother is a gospel singer. He was not allowed to listen to any secular music until he became older. After graduating high school, Pink Sweat$ went through some health challenges, but once he recovered, he decided to focus on music as a career. His stage name originated from his propensity to wear pink sweat pants, as he was inspired by the Harlem rapper Cam’ron (whose trademark is wearing pink clothing). Sweat$ started in the music business as a demo vocalist at Sigma Sound Studios in Philly, where he began to write songs and produce for several artists (from hip hop to country).

Pink Sweat$ released his first single, “Honesty” in 2018 and that was followed by the release of his first EP Volume 1. Soon after that, Sweat$ released his second EP Volume 2 in 2019. Pink Sweat$ had planned to release his first album next, but the pandemic delayed it, so he released a third EP, The Prelude, in 2020. In February 2021, Pink finally released his first album, Pink Planet

Pink Sweat$ and his four piece band (drums, bass, guitar and keyboards) started off the show by coming out on stage with pink ski masks over their faces, which amped up the crowd even more than they already were. The first song Pink performed was the uptempo and funky “Icy” from Pink Planet. The band was feeling it and Pink Sweat$ demonstrated his infectious energy as he sang and danced around the stage. Pink followed that with another banger from Pink Planet, “Pink Money”. He slowed it down a bit with a few acoustic soul songs he is best known for, “Coke & Henny” from Volume 2, “Cocaine” and “Would You” from Volume 1. Pink Sweat$ knows how to make you feel a love song and these songs definitely resonated with the crowd.

Pink and the band continued the set with “17”, “Lows”  and “Heaven”. During this part of the show, Pink Sweat$ engaged heavily with the crowd, shaking hands with some fans in the front, and having the crowd turn their cell phone lights on and pointing them towards couples that professed they were in love as he serenaded them. Pink Sweat$ projects love and positivity during his shows, and that is very much appreciated by his fans.

Pink next sang my favorite song of his “Pink City” and before he did, he had the crowd repeat positive affirmations to let them know they could do whatever they set their minds to do. “Pink City” is all about how to rise above the challenges and circumstances one faces in life to become successful. Pink Sweat$ sang the heartfelt “Body Ain’t Me” followed by his first song “Honesty”, where he had different sections of the crowd compete with each other by singing the infectious hook (I Want You). Pink then finished up with a new single, “Nothing Feels Better” and “At My Worst”

Pink Sweat$ puts on a solid show, he has a large and diverse following and he sings of love and emanates a positive vibe with his voice and heartfelt lyrics. He is authentic and his fans gravitate to that. The future of music is bright with artists like Pink Sweat$. Please check him out when he comes to your city!
