Andrew Bird Leaves The Anthem Emotional With His Heart-Felt Vocals

I’ve been an Andrew Bird fan since about 2008, and this was my first-ever Andrew Bird concert. It did not disappoint. The crowd was seated at The Anthem as they took in the singer-songwriter’s philosophical tunes, heart-felt vocals, emotional violin, and signature whistling solos. Supported by cellist, Alan Hampton, drummer, Ted Poor, and angelic-voiced Madison Cunningham, Bird’s set was simultaneously dark and cheerful, and all-together gorgeous. They played songs from Bird’s newest album, My Finest Work Yet, which has a more uplifting tone than his previous works, and doesn’t hold back on the political commentary in the lyrics. In fact, it challenges its listeners to celebrate and embrace topics that cause discomfort. Check out Andrew Bird’s latest album here.

Chicano Batman, who opened for Andrew Bird, brought some up-beat psychedelic soul with a Latin twist that the crowd couldn’t resist dancing to. They appeared on stage, smiling and stylish. This was my first time ever hearing Chicano Batman, and I’ve been listening to them nonstop since I heard their opening act at The Anthem last Saturday night. Chicano Batman’s energy was funky and upbeat, which was the perfect way to bring the crowd up for Andrew Bird’s more serious set. Their unique sound is definitely worth checking out if you haven’t heard them already! Peep ’em here.
