The Outcalls Captivate the Audience at Metro Gallery

I went to the Metro Gallery in Baltimore this past Saturday night for Raindeer’s record release party.  The band wasn’t scheduled to take the stage until 10:30pm. However, I always go to shows early because I have learned that opening performers can truly be amazing. Every band on the schedule to perform that night was from Baltimore, which made it even more of a “must see” show.  I did not have any expectations other than to just enjoy the evening and take a few photos.  I had no idea what I was in store for.

Melissa Wimbish of Outcalls

The minute Outcalls took the stage, I was captivated.  Melissa Wimbish and her musical partner, Britt Olsen-Ecker, had my full attention for their entire set.  Melissa took center stage and delivered flawless vocals with such intensity while Britt equally performed with vocals and keyboards.  Their music had such a unique sound, that I found it difficult to classify it into a particular genre.  The two musicians had truly created a style of their own.

Both Melissa and Britt are classically trained opera singers who graduated from Peabody.  Their harmonies are perfection, and they captivated every person in the room.  One song, which I believe was my favorite of the evening, was sung entirely in French. I overheard one member of the crowd say to his friend after that song, “I just love them!  They’re so great!” and I smiled because I was thinking the exact same thing.  There is nothing I love more than beautiful, talented female musicians!

I am very thankful that I caught the opening act that night.  I now have yet another amazingly talented band to add to my list of “phenomenal musicians who call Baltimore their home”. Not only are they great musicians, their style and presence on stage makes their performances unforgettable.
