No Room for Country Music on the Radio

I am proud to say I am a fan of country music. I love the cowboy way of life. I work hard with my hands, with horses, and I have no problem saying how I feel. I love this country. I will wave the beautiful flag of ours proudly.

I will never understand how a genre that was made by poor hardworking people while sitting on the porch after a long hot day, has turned a blind eye on injustice. They just don’t give airplay the the artist who have something to say about current events and what’s going on in our country.

Well, I am here to tell you that what you hear on “Country” radio is not real life. We don’t sit on the tailgates on a Friday night drinking beer and dancing with a girl on the hood of the truck. A lot of us work hard, play hard. But we have always been about helping whoever needs it. I want to share with you some country music that, in my eyes, should be played more frequently on country radio, which only plays the cookie cutter music.

American Aquarium has consistently made music about the struggles that come with everyday life from staying sober to the struggle of small towns everywhere. Their new album Lamentations is a masterpiece and definitely worth checking out.

Eric Church is a man that walks the line. Never mind that he is mainstream, because he could care less. He wants people to know that we are here and right there with you. With the lyrics “drop me off in Baltimore, where ever other window has a plywood board, where dreams become drugs and guns, the only way out is to shoot or run“, the hair on your neck should stand up.

The Chicks (formally knows as The Dixie Chicks) are a prime example of being shunned from Country radio for speaking their mind. The Chicks have shed the name Dixie Chicks, in the mist of the current events. I praise them for the stand they take. Their new set of videos are by female visual artist in the spotlight.

Ryan Bingham doesn’t mix his words. We know where he stands. As a cowboy from Hobbs, Texas, some people are surprised by his political stance. If you listen to his lyrics they hit hard. He is one of my favorite artist out there. Any man who can ride his horse with the protesters in Compton, California is my kind of artist!

Folks, all I am saying is no matter where you live or who you love, what color your skin is… just know we can change things.

Love you all. Peace. ~ Brandon
