The Next Step: Small Outdoor Shows Start to Emerge

For the first time in many months, I went to hear and photograph a show Sunday evening. Hot Rod Mule brought Bluegrass to Wehrleys Auction House in Glen Rock, PA. The show was out-doors and I was happy to see social distancing practices were in place.

The band, which is made up of local musicians, are always having a great time, and it was definitely a show well worth seeing. Jesse, the guitar picker, who hails from the intersection of Turtle Hollow and Mushroom Hollow, took the lead in the merriment. Dean Phillips, a Mike Munford protégé, burned up the 5-string banjo. The ever so versatile Steve Streett on bass. Mark Seitz chopping up the mandolin and vocals with Keri Seitz Miller vocally bedazzling the crowd of socially distanced folks.

The band displayed few signs of rust, being that this is their first show in 4 months, but overall the performance was great. They played several traditional bluegrass songs plus a few covers, like “Rooster” by Alice in Chains. In accordance to law, Scott auctioned several items between sets with the proceeds going to St. Judes.

This show was Wehrlys first since the virus has ravaged our country and taken away so much of our live entertainment. It felt cautiously good to get out to a show again, Scott plans on doing more bluegrass shows in the future with some local acts in the near future.
