The Allman Betts Band: Paving their own Road.

The thing about generations, is that you can’t compare them. They do their own thing, they shape the world the way they see fit. They appreciate the past but they move for the future. Even though their fathers made up the beloved Allman Brothers Band, Devon Allman and Duane Betts are making their own music – their own way.

The Allman Betts Band bus was parked right outside of Rams Head On Stage. the night of the show. As I talked to the fans, standing by the bus, it was clear that their excitement and support for the band was strong. John, a fan since their solo albums, drove 3 hours to see this show. The band was humble enough to sign his guitar that he had brought along with him.

Opening the show for the night was Scott Sharrad. A songwriter and guitarist who wrote songs with Greg Allman. He shared some beautiful stories about Greg playing Rams Head On Stage and how Greg just loved this room. He stated, “We have a spirit in the room, Can you feel it.”

Duane Betts feeling spirits!

The band walked past me carrying a strut that felt like they had something to prove. However, this crowd had their backs. They kicked the show off with two new songs from their upcoming album, due out in June. Next they performed “Blue Skies”, the classic Allman Brothers song. The Down to the River Tour is a show you need to catch whether it be in a small club or big venue. The energy that these guys deliver is rare to see!

My father had a huge impact on my music and introducing me to The Allman Brothers band. They were his generations southern soul/rock band. I love them. However, The Allman Betts Band is our glimpse into the future of some great southern soul and rock. They are not chasing a ghost. They are honoring spirits. The Spirits were very much with us last night!
