The Vortex at CAA Park in Catonsville was the place to be on Saturday, hosting a bluegrass and roots music celebration that delivered non-stop talent and unforgettable moments. With a seamless side-by-side stage setup, the day rolled along with minimal downtime and maximum music.
MC and artist-at-large Sarah Larsen kicked things off, introducing the first band, By & By, and from there, the music never let up. Rock Creek Revival brought rich bluegrass sounds to the stage, followed by local favorites Dirty Grass Players, whose energy kept the crowd on their feet.

Seneca Creek kept the string-driven rhythm going before award-winning Danny Paisley brought his powerhouse vocals and traditional bluegrass flair. Dawg and Dell added a unique twist with their Grateful Dead-inspired tunes, paving the way for Nashville heavy-hitters East Nashville Grass, who lit up the stage.
Things swung back to traditional with The High and Wides, followed by a progressive jamgrass set from Sicard Hollow, who turned up the energy as the sun began to set.
With evening lights in full glow, Geraldine delivered a fresh take on bluegrass before the festival’s highly anticipated headliner, Dan Tyminski, took the stage. Known for his work with Alison Krauss and his iconic contributions to the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack, Tyminski led an extraordinary set, blending old favorites with newer material. His joy for performing was evident, the smile never leaving his face as he and his exceptional band captivated the crowd.
The Music City Maryland Bluegrass and Roots Festival was beautifully organized in a welcoming venue. If this becomes an annual event, I’ll be first in line to return.
