Meet Andy Jillson

My name is Andy Jillson. I’m a freelance photographer and writer currently living in Silver Spring, MD. I’m particularly drawn to taking photos of musicians, and I’ve been photographing concerts in my free time since 2013. The first band I ever photographed was The Flaming Lips. It was fucking amazing. I photographed The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, Tame Impala, and The Flaming Lips at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Oct. 4, 2013. That was my first experience in a photo pit. I’ve been hooked since then.

I’ve attended hundreds of concerts throughout my life, and I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of time pouring over music. My rock ‘n’ roll obsession began as kid in the late 80’s, and I feel extremely fortunate to finally be doing something I love.  I do this for the love of music. It’s just that simple. I’m not after any money and have no delusions of becoming a self-employed concert photographer. I just want to rock out and have fun in the photo pit with my friends.

Here are some of my favorite bands:
The Beatles
Dead Kennedys
Nirvana
The Cure
Radiohead
Gojira
Queens of the Stone Age
The Mars Volta
Mastodon
Ministry
Blur
Built to Spill
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
The Flaming Lips
