Mary Prankster Makes Her Raucous Return at The Ottobar

Although it’s been 14 years between records and, other than a few solo appearances (including 2017’s Pranksgiving) Baltimore’s own Mary Prankster has been out of the limelight. That is, until, the songwriting bug bit again and brought back the brilliant LP, Thickly Settled. (check out our album review here!) And, of course, there had to be a party! So what better plan to have both Pranksgiving and a record release party at the same time? On Friday night, Mary Prankster brought with her a full band (I’m talkin’ keyboards, guitars, drums, horns, strings, the whole nine yards) to a sold out Ottobar.

After a great set by local artists F City and EZ Jackson who got this crowd moving, Mary Prankster’s band came out to start the set with the rowdy “Rock N Roll Degenerate” from the new album as Mary herself took the stage. And it was a set that included just about everything. From a rockin’ version of “Tits and Whiskey” to the audience singing along to “Blues Skies Over Dundalk” to “Roulette Girl” with a searing guitar solo by Super City’s Dan Ryan.

Cheekily introducing the next song, Mary announced, “Hey, Baltimore, I’m feeling horny” as the horn section took the stage to perform the swinging “Sweet Beet.” In fact, the whole evening went from one genre to another but was all tied together by that trademark lyrical wit.

Although Mary Prankster finished up her Pranksgiving Weekend this week, you can catch her at WTMD for a “Very Mary (Prankster) XMAS on December 19th! You can pick up tickets for this show by clicking here!
