Rising R&B star Kiana Ledé was the headliner for the 93.9 WKYS International Women’s Day Concert, held on 3/7/20 at The Fillmore in Silver Spring, MD. The event also featured opening performances from up and coming artists Alex Mali and The Bonfyre. In addition, DJ Reece and WKYS on air personalities Little Bacon Bear, Jackie Paige and Angie Ang kept the crowd hyped during the breaks.
Kiana Ledé is a very talented singer, songwriter, musician (and actress) signed to Republic Records. She is originally from Phoenix, Arizona, but now resides in Los Angeles. Ledé has previously released one album (Selfless in 2018), three EPs (Soulfood Sessions in 2015, Christmas by Ledé in 2016, and her latest project Myself in 2019). She has released several singles, including her latest effort “Mad At Me”, “Title” and “Easy Breezy”. Kiana Ledé’s music and lyrics makes her relatable to a large number of younger fans, while some of her songs (particularly the song “Heavy” from the Myself EP) have universal appeal as it deals with the subject of depression. Below is a link to her powerful performance of “Heavy” at the 2019 Black Girls Rock event, which aired on BET.
Kiana performed for approximately one hour and she made sure the enthusiastic crowd was engaged from the very first song, “Can I” from the Myself EP. This is the second time I have seen her perform (AFRAM In Baltimore in August 2019) and typically her fans know her songs so well, they tend to sing along with Kiana word for word. Tonight was no exception as she moved on to her current single “Mad At Me” (a catchy tune that samples Outkast’s “So Fresh, So Clean”) and is getting good airplay on radio stations. Kiana then sung “Get In The Way” followed by “Show Love”, “Shame”, “Fairplay” and “Wicked Games”, all from the amazing Selfless album.
“Shame” afforded the engaged crowd ample opportunity to sing the chorus (It’s a shame she gonna know everything I taught you…it’s a shame you she gonna get to see your better you). Kiana then slowed it down, taking a seat onstage to sing the acoustic ballad “Take It All”. Closing out the show, Kiana sang “If You Hate Me”, another powerful ballad, followed by her most popular song, “Ex”. She thanked the crowd and left the stage, but they coaxed her to return and Kiana obliged, finishing up the show with her single “Title”.
Kiana Ledé is a talented, exciting artist who performs with lots of energy and delivers a quality performance. Her voice is strong and versatile and she writes songs that her fan base can definitely relate to. Kiana will be releasing a new album called KIKI that is scheduled to be released on 4/3/2020. She has announced dates for a European tour this summer, and will add US dates this fall, so stay tuned for great things in the future from this rising star!
