The Lincoln Theatre is rumored to have ghosts and they come alive on certain nights. Musicians from the past, such as, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Cab Calloway have left their mark on The Lincoln Theatre. As I strolled in I could feel a presence of something more powerful than just a regular concert venue. There is history here and I was about to witness some history.
Glen Hansard strolled out before the opening act, without a microphone, just him and his guitar. He thanked everyone for getting there early and belted out a stirring version of “Say it to me now”. Immediately, the hair stood up on my arms.
He performed songs from his new album, The Wild Willing, such as, “I’ll Be You”, “Be Me”, and “Don’t Settle” were beautiful highlights on this night. As the night went on you knew it was a special night that’s because this was a short theatre tour with only 4 stops. D.C.’s show was the last stop on the tour. As I strolled the streets of D.C. I realized I had witnessed a revival and I knew the ghosts in the Lincoln Theatre where on the stage that night with Glen Hansard, just smiling and signing along, like part of the crowd.
