What better remedy for the blistering cold than working up a sweat with the infectious groove of Meet Me @ The Altar, the Florida-based pop-punk band who kicked off their current tour this month with a stop Wednesday at the Baltimore Soundstage.
Hot on the heels of their newest EP, Worried Sick, singer Edith Victoria and drummer Ada Juarez were joined by Emmy Barone on guitar and Kaylie Sang on bass to play to an enthusiastic crowd.
As Charm City was digging out of what turned out to be a crippling snow storm, I could tell that fans were already feeling the itch to get out as a small but growing line formed outside the Soundstage.
And I know from personal experience, that old adage that you have to work for what you want was more real that night than others in recent memory. From navigating the snow mounds to working with my Lyft driver and two other neighbors to push a van that had stalled in the middle of the narrow one-way street, it felt like running a gauntlet to get to the prize. And what a prize it was.
After a fun and fiery set by Jersey band, Pollyanna, Meet Me @ The Altar took the stage, kicking things off with the lead from the new EP, “Dead to Me.” Right from the get-go the crowd couldn’t get enough. The joy on the faces in the crowd only matched the fun that Victoria and the rest of the band seemed to be having on-stage.

If that didn’t get the frost thawing, the next song certainly did with Edith Victoria calling out, “One, two, one two three JUMP!” as the crowd responded enthusiastically.
Songs like “Mapped Out” seemed designed for a live audience as, without hesitation, fans clapped and stomped along. That community feel that’s such an integral part of any good show was front and center Wednesday night.

Dedicating to all the female fans in the crowd, the band played “Hit Like a Girl,” as fans obliged with a female-only mosh pit.
Meet Me @ The Altar feels like a band that’s been around for decades with a dedicated fan community, though their debut full-length, Past // Present // Future only came out a couple of years ago. A good chunk of their set was a mix of fan favorites and a few surprises. The band even played a medley of a few covers as Jimmy Eat World’s “Sweetness” turned to “My Friend’s Over You,” by New Found Glory and then to “My Own Worst Enemy” by Lit.
Their new single, “Karma,” sounded amazing as they ran through several of the new songs from the Worried Sick EP before ending the set with “Kool” from their debut LP.

Meet Me @ The Altar wrap up their all too short Winter tour, but if you have the chance to see them live, it’s a show well worth the travel.

Nice work. Stage lighting is difficult to deal with and these are really nice and sharp.
