The sisters of The Warning, the trio from Monterrey, Mexico, have been taking the world by storm since a video of the band performing Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” became an overnight sensation when they were in their early teens. Since then, Daniela “Dany” Villarreal Vélez (vocals/guitar), Paulina
“Pau” Villarreal Vélez (drums/vocals), and Alejandra “Ale” Villarreal Vélez (bass/vocals) have written and recorded four full-length albums, celebrating the release of Keep Me Fed earlier this Summer.

There are those who lament the state of Rock ‘N Roll, but it never went away. In fact, as evidenced at a sold-out Saturday night at Rams Head Live in Baltimore, The Warning is making sure it’s far from over.

As Dany, Pau, and Ale took the stage, which was framed by neon light tubes that changed color throughout their set, the whole place shook. It’s a rare sight to look out and not see an ounce of space wasted, but Rams Head was as packed as I’ve ever seen it. And fans from all ages were represented. In fact, I saw more than a few kids in the crowd, some on their parents’ shoulders, taking it all in.

Hitting their stride with the heavy hitting “Qué Más Quieres” – translated to “What more do you want?” in English – with the trio shouting “Dime ¿Qué mas quieres?” along with the crowd. Standing amongst the fans crowding around the stage, I could see how this band has grown over the relatively short amount of time they’ve been actively touring and recording.

Speaking of recording, or rather recordings, the entire set Saturday night was devoted to the band’s more recent albums, 2022’s Error and the aforementioned Keep Me Fed – both huge leaps both in terms of songwriting and sheer volume/heaviness from their first two releases.

A lot of the new songs from Keep Me Fed have a big arena feel, especially when the chorus hits in “Escapism” or that break in “Burnout,” both of which sounded incredible live. And maybe it’s the energy coming off the crowd that was, well, “feeding” Dany, Pau, and Ale on-stage, but everything felt bigger and more intense.

While Dany and Ale stared each other down from opposite ends of the stage, Pau at times stood up to cheer on the crowd from her drum riser. I’m always amazed at how an artist can play leads while singing at the top of their lungs, and Dany seemed to make it look effortless.

Reaching the end of their regular set, The Warning saved the best for last with new fan favorite, “Automatic Sun” and “MARTIRIO” before returning to encore with the single, “Narcisista” and “EVOLVE.” There was a brief pause during the song as someone in the crowd had fainted, but once everyone was checked out, the band roared back into it, capping off a great night.

The Warning continue their North American tour, and it’s one to not miss.
