I checked my phone midway through the day today. Texts, tweets, tags, and messages – “have you heard?” “did you see?” I followed links sent to my phone and checked out Twitter and sure enough – D.C.’s Mayor announced today that venues in D.C. could open at full capacity after June 11th.
It’s been over a year since we have been able to enjoy a legitimate concert. This year has been tough for the average music fan – but for folks like me who attend several concerts a month and run a music blog – this has been a challenging year. It almost feels like a dream. Did I hear this correctly? Are venues finally opening? Will the world of live music finally get back to “normal”?
Over the year, I have had so many shows cancel and reschedule that I have legitimately lost track, but I was happy to see that my show to see New Order and Pet Shop Boys at Merriweather Post Pavilion from last September looks to be on for THIS September. The announcement today is reassurance that I am actually going to see this show for my birthday – one year later!
While I know many are still apprehensive, I think this is a step in a forward direction. I won’t be running out to see a show quite yet; however, having been vaccinated since February – I am ready to get on with life – and for me… live music IS life.
What shows do you have planned for the rest of 2021?
Are you ready?
I am.
