Merriweather Post Pavilion was packed this past Saturday night for the 311/Dirty Heads co-headlining summer tour. While I was there to catch 311, one of my favorite bands, I was just as excited for the second opener of the evening – DREAMERS. The three piece, consisting of Nick Wold (vocals/guitar), Marc Nelson (bass/keyboard/vocals, and Jacob Lee Wick (drums/vocals) have been making music since 2014. However, more recently, they have getting some attention.
The last time I caught DREAMERS, they were opening for You Me at Six at the 930 Club. Their performance blew me away. I had already been following these guys, thanks to airplay of their singles on DC 101; however, they delivered a tight live performance despite being a relatively young/newer band. So, I was looking forward to seeing them perform at Merriweather.
DREAMERS took the stage early in the evening. The crowd was just beginning to make their way into the venue for the full night of music. Fans lined the front of the stage and the lawn was starting to fill with blankets. The band came on strong with the song, “Screws”, the single from their 2019 EP, Launch. This song is the perfect song to illustrate their talent as a three piece. The loud, driving guitars and beat, as well as Nick Wold’s strong vocals took the audience by surprise. People in the crowd who were talking and wandering, stopped and paid attention, and DREAMERS kept them attentive for their entire 6-song set.
Following this perfectly written power pop single, they performed the fast pace, rocky, “Vampire in the Sun” and then chilled things down with the much slower, “Take Me Home”. Both of these songs are from their most recent album, Launch Fly Land. The last three songs of their set were the more recent radio hits and got the audience singing along. They performed “Wolves (You Got Me)” and “Sweet Disaster”, both from their 2016 debut album, This Album Does Not Exist. Then they gave a nice shout out to DC 101 for playing their music and closed their set with the single from their new album, “Die Happy”.
Going into this, I knew their set would be short. However, they picked the perfect songs to gain some new listeners. I am really looking forward to seeing these guys play a headlining tour because I know they will be amazing!
