Tokyo Police Club, formed in 2005 in Toronto, Canada, are an indie-rock band with a new self-titled album TPC. From performing a number of shows and festivals from Bonnaroo, Coachella, to the Reading and Leeds Festival, they have come a long way since the small club shows in North America. The new album, TPC, is an edgier take on their old style. They were nominated at the Juno Awards for Alternative Album of the Year, which is an amazing break for the band.

The band consists of bassist and singer Dave Monks, guitarist and keyboard player Graham Wright, guitarist Josh Hook, and drummer Greg Alsop.

Hearing the new album is a great refresher. Songs like “DLTFWYH” (acronym for Don’t Let Them Fuck With Your Heart) and “Pigs” are the heaviest songs on the album which shows they are great story telling songs. In addition, the songs illustrate the growth in the band and how they’ve changed over the years. For example, “Ready To Win” is a song about owning up to your mistakes. They created a beautiful music video for this one where they had the fans submit their “fuck ups” and included them into the stop-motion video.

As they still run their own merch in the back of the clubs, and getting to meet the guys after the concert shows that they still are down to earth, and always put the fans first. They were all very happy to take photos and sign albums. I always make sure to check the show out whenever they stop by my city, and I have such a high expectation for the show to be full of energy and fan interaction, as Dave likes to jump into the crowd and sing with us. I will always recommend this band to all my friends and make sure to bring them to the concerts as I know they will be treated like family at them.
