I happened upon Raindeer last fall opening for The Swirlies at Ottobar. As with most opening bands, I knew very little about them going into the show; however, by the end of the night, I became a new fan. This was the case with my first experience with Raindeer. A few months later, I had an entirely different experience when they performed as the headlining act at Metro Gallery for their record release party.
Dreampop mixed with Shoegaze would be the best description that I would have for Raindeer. These two genres are pretty far on the top of my favorites list. Raindeer has such a soothing sound that I can listen to them at any time of day. Instantly, I float away on the dreamy vocals, steady rhythmic bass and echoey keyboards. The first time I saw them, I instantly fell in love and I was excited to pick up their newest release, Dreambeat17.
Their show this past Thursday at Metro Gallery was in celebration of the release of this new album. Unlike the first time I saw Raindeer at the Ottobar, the Metro Gallery was packed with fans, evidence that they band had gained quite a following over the months since I had seen them last. Dramatic lighting, glow sticks, fury friends, and lots of dancing filled the venue. And just like their music, their performance took the audience to a dreamlike state.
Raindeer, from Baltimore, are yet another example of the excellent music this city produces. Be sure to check this band out! They have several official videos on their YouTube Channel and if you like what you hear, support them by buying their record here.
