So, I have been wanting to catch Rainbow Kitten Surprise for awhile now. RKS have been making music since 2013 but only recently have the been stepping into the spotlight. Back in January, they sold out two nights at the 930 Club which is no easy task (and both shows on weeknights). However, I was not able to make either of the shows and they’ve been on my “must see live” list since. Fellow local D.C. photographer, Nathan Payne, caught their show at the 930 Club and you can see his coverage from that show here.
In addition to Rainbow Kitten Surprise, another band that has been on my “must see again” list is Illiterate Light. I was able to catch them at WTMD’s First Thursday in Canton back in June and loved their set. The duo’s energy on stage is contagious and quite impressive given that they are only a two-piece. Check out my photos from their set here.
Then, I heard the announcement that Rainbow Kitten Surprise and Illiterate Light were teaming up for a late summer tour. However, the immediate D.C. area wasn’t on their list of stops this time. Sadly, I would miss them again. However, our main Floridian contributor, Chris Cornett, was able to catch their show at House of Blues Orlando this past Monday night. Needless to say, I was a bit jealous but so happy that we were finally able to cover BOTH of these bands on the blog! The House of Blues Orlando was packed, from the floor all the way across the balcony, and both bands delivered high energy performances.
Special thanks to Chris for these great photos from the Orlando show. If you have seen either of these two bands perform live, I’m sure you already know what I am missing. Hopefully I will get to see them soon!
