This past weekend, the newly formed band, Be Well packed the upstairs room at Songbyrd Music House in D.C. The much talked about band may be new to the scene; however, the five members that make up Be Well are deeply rooted in the area’s hardcore punk music scene going back to the mid to late 90s.
The members of Be Well include Peter Tsouras (Guitar) and Shane Johnson (Drums) from Fairweather, Mike Schleibaum (guitar) of Darkest Hour, and Aaron Dalbec (Bass) from Bane. Rounding out the quintet is the vocalist, Brian McTernan, who is known for his production work with bands like Circa Survive, Hot Water Music, Turnstile and Thrice.
Be Well just released a self-titled 2-song EP as a teaser for their debut full-length on Equal Vision Records that will be released later this Spring. Their performance this past Saturday night at Songbyrd, treated fans to songs that will be featured on this album. Included in their set were the two new songs on the EP, “Strength for Breath” and “Frozen”. Both songs blend elements of melodic hardcore with notes of 90’s post-hardcore influence. The deeply personal lyrics of both songs share feelings of regret, forgiveness, and seeking help for change.
The band played their first show together back in September at Milkboy ArtHouse in College Park and have since played a handful of shows in the northeast. The show this past Saturday at Songbyrd was in celebration of the release of their EP. The $10 entry fee included a copy of the 7″ on green vinyl. (which is super cool!) Cloak/Dagger from Richmond, Virginia, opened up for the night!
Be Well will be performing a few more shows in April and May; however, if you plan to catch them – get tickets soon, because their shows are selling out fast!
