Zoé and July Talk are Reasons Why We Should Never Miss the Openers

I make it a point to never skip an opening band when I go to shows.  “Oh they’re just the opener”. I hear this a lot from the casual music fan.  However, I know from experience that the opener can be every bit as good, sometimes even better than the headliner.  In 2018, I discovered many amazing artists by going to shows early to catch “the opener” and 2019 is looking to deliver the same discoveries.

Metric just set out on tour, and with them is, Zoé – a rock band from Mexico.  Thanks to this tour, Zoé will gain a lot of new fans!  The band has been around for 20 years and has developed quite a following in Mexico; however, like myself, I think many Americans are unaware of these incredible musicians.  Zoé spend the early part of the 2000’s self-promoting, recording, and performing.  Years of hard work paid off and in 2019 they won a Grammy for the “Best Latin Rock, Urban, or Alternative Album for their album, Aztlán.

In addition to Zoé, Metric also brought along fellow Canadian musicians, July Talk.  Although they have only recorded two studio albums, July Talk wins their fans over with their live performances.  Last Friday’s show at The Fillmore was no exception.  Exploding on stage with charisma and driving rhythms, July Talk kicked off a phenomenal night of performances.

Be sure to check out both of these great artists on iTunes or Spotify. All photos of  Zoé and July Talk copyright and courtesy of Nalinee Darmrong.
