Till Lindemann Brings a Unforgettable Spectacle to the Fillmore Silver Spring

Rain might not be the perfect weather for a lot of things, but the hazy weather outside of the packed Fillmore Silver Spring Wednesday night set the mood for the loud, heavy, and over-the-top performance by Rammstein vocalist Till Lindemann.

For the Berlin industrial metal giant, the Silver Spring stop was only the fifth stop on his first ever solo tour. On this tour, he brought two brilliant openers in the theatrical Aesthetic Perfection and 50’s styled metal duo Twin Temple.

Lindemann’s band, Rammstein is known for its massive arena and stadium pyrotechnics with Lindemann often donning twin flamethrowers during the set. At the Fillmore such elaborate design would be impossible, but what we got was no less impressive. Screens that covered the entirety of the rear of the stage flashed at first benign and then increasingly heavier, more bizarre imagery.

Starting off the set, Till Lindemann appeared silhouetted through the smoke and red LED background bordered by his band – Joe Letz (drums), Constance Day (keys), Jes Paige and Emily Ruduvich on guitars, and Danny Lohner on bass. Soon everyone took their places and things rocketed forward with “Zunge” the title track from his most recent album.

Dressed in all red, sporting a cap and shaggy overcoat, Lindemann took center stage. Lindemann’s dark baritone growling over the heavily distorted thrum.

At times appearing to conduct crowd with his arms, Lindemann stepped onto the outcropping that jutted from the stage. The way in one instance he can go from a calm, matter-of-fact tone to full-on bellowing at full-throated blast was incredible to witness.

Bolstered by an impressive band, Till Lindemann seemed to be having fun, at one point taking to the club floor as he made his way through the venue with Constance Antoinette Day accompanying him through the crowd. Truly a show in every sense of the word.

Till Lindemann and his band continue their tour through mid-October.
