On Wednesday night, rising star, Snoh Aalegra, brought her highly anticipated show to The Fillmore in Silver Spring, MD. Her music has been described as a mix of R&B, Soul and Pop. Snoh was born in Sweden to Persian parents, and has called Los Angeles her home for the last several years. She has two albums as well as EPs to her credit since 2014 and The Fillmore was the 4th stop of a brief North American tour (7 cities over 17 days) she calls Ugh, a mini tour again . Seems like an odd name for a tour until you consider the name of her latest album (Ugh, those feels again); then it makes perfect sense.
The huge, sell out Fillmore crowd was shoulder to shoulder from the main floor to the balcony in anticipation of Snoh performing their favorite songs from her latest album. Snoh’s tight band came out first and started playing the intro (Here Now), the first song from Ugh, those feels again. The crowd began to lose it as they tried to determine when (and from where) Snoh would appear. When she finally did about a minute later, she was accompanied by an impressive and dazzling light show and billows of white smoke.
Once the smoke cleared, Snoh’s set lasted about an hour. She exhibited a great stage presence and was very active throughout the show. She made use of the entire stage to allow fans on both sides ample opportunities to see her up close. The crowd loved every song she performed from the Ugh, those feels again album, but they got particularly excited for Situationship,Whoa, Toronto, Love Like That and You.
Snoh then performed the beautiful ballad Find Someone Like You before thanking the crowd and leaving the stage. The crowd stayed and cheered loudly as they urged her to return to the stage to sing one more song, and Snoh did not disappoint them. I Want You Around was the song they had waited for and the crowd sang along with Snoh word for word, a true indication of an artist vibing and making a true connection with their audience. It was a very fitting way to end her amazing performance.
