Baltimore has a reputation for producing some amazing artists. Wye Oak, Beach House, and Dan Deacon are just a few of my favorite artists who call Baltimore their home. I have had the pleasure of seeing these artists in small clubs and venues around town at a time when they were simply “local bands”. Baltimore Unsigned on WTMD is by far my favorite radio program. I have found some amazing Baltimore and D.C. artists on this program! One of these bands is Raindeer.
Back in October, I had plans to see The Swirlies perform at Ottobar in Baltimore. My goal was to leave my camera at home and just enjoy the show. However, I arrived early and happened upon Raindeer’s soundcheck prior to the show. I was so impressed with their soundcheck that I grabbed my camera because I knew this was going to be a show that I didn’t want to miss documenting.
Raindeer performed to a rather small crowd who came early to see The Swirlies. However, those who came late, missed an incredible performance. Airy vocals and an electric dreampop sounds filled the club. As a result, those in the room gathered close to the stage intrigued. As I listened to their set, I was wishing that they were the headliner and not the opener. Although, The Swirlies were great, Raindeer’s music was more in line with my taste in music!
The band has recorded a new album, Dreambeat17, which will be released this Friday, February 22nd. You can get your digital download or cassette here! If you’d like to see this band perform live (which I highly recommend), they will by performing on March 9th at Metro Gallery in Baltimore celebrating their album release. In the meantime, check out the photos from their show at The Ottobar on October 3, 2018 when they opened for The Swirlies.
