Ra Ra Riot set out on a one month tour with Bayonne beginning mid-October. They wrapped up their tour on the east coast, stopping by the 930 Club on November 13th before heading to Philadelphia and then closing out the tour in their home state of New York.
Bayonne opened to a small crowd who had arrived early to the show. Those who were there were treated to an amazing performance by this band from Austin, Texas. Bayonne is the stage name of musician, Roger Sellers, who has released three studio albums to date. He incorporates layers of music by looping combined with tribal drumming rhythms and airy vocals. His stage presence was captivating and emotionally in tune with the music. I was incredibly impressed having walked into the venue with no knowledge of this musician.
Ra Ra Riot opened earlier this year for Third Eye Blind at Merriweather Post Pavilion and we were happy to be able to catch them headlining at 930 Club on this tour. Ra Ra Riot are an indie rock band from New York and they have been making music since 2006. I had the pleasure of seeing them for the first time at the 930 Club when they opened for The Editors in 2007.
The band is touring in support of their latest album, Superbloom which came out earlier this year. They performed a 16-song set-list which, surprisingly only included four songs from the new album: “Flowers”, “Belladonna”, “Dangerous”, and “Bad to Worse”. They performed a variety of songs from throughout their 10+ year catalog, including some lesser performed songs such as “Winter 05” from their 2008 debut album, The Rhumb Line.
For the encore, they returned to the stage to perform “Dying is Fine” from their debut album and ended the night with “A Check for Daniel”, the closing track from their newest album.
