Recording artist and two time Grammy award winner, Melanie Fiona, brought her show to the legendary Howard Theatre in Washington, DC on 5/23/19. Her immense vocal talents and engaging personality were on full display!
Fiona, a native of Toronto Canada, first came on the scene in 2009 with her amazing debut album, The Bridge. This album produced hits like, “Give It To Me Right” and her strongest solo hit to date, “It Kills Me”. She followed that album up in 2012 with the equally impressive effort, The MF Life. Melanie was nominated for multiple Grammys, in 2010 for Best Vocal Performance for It Kills Me and again in 2013 for Best Traditional R&B Performance for The Wrong Side of a Love Song from The MF Life album. Melanie co-wrote and performed the smash hit “Fool For You” with Cee-Lo, and that earned them two Grammys for Best Traditional R&B Performance and Best R&B Song.
At the performance at Howard Theatre, Melanie and her band started their set with “Give It To Me Right” which got the crowd going. She did a great job of mixing it up during her set, skillfully moving between up her up tempo songs and slower ballads. She spent a few minutes talking to the crowd as well, and that seemed to increase her personal connection to the attentive audience.
Melanie (and her solid band) applied a unique interpretation to the classics “Saving All My Love for You” by Whitney Houston, “Before I Let Go” by Frankie Beverly and Maze, and “I Love You More Than You Ever Know” by Blood, Sweat and Tears. Melanie’s vocals on the latter were VERY impressive and let the crowd know her vocal skills had not diminished one bit! Melanie ended her show with her signature, “It Kills Me”, and left the audience wanting more as she thanked everyone for coming to see her perform.
