After 20 years, Gogol Bordello surely knows how to have fun. The band delivered a performance that was on fire this past Friday night at Rams Head in Baltimore.
Opening for Gogol Bordello Friday night was the band, Nu Folk Rebel Alliance. This band is a duo comprised of Pedro Erazo of Gogol Bordello and Leo Minimum Tek. This pair are from New York and are best known for their album of Clash covers. They had a heartfelt message about unity and peace. In between songs, Pedro Erazo said, “We are here to show the President that we don’t need to build any walls, we need to build bridges.” The crowd responded with applause as they broke into the song, “Armagideon Time” by The Clash. Their performance was a great start to this excellent night of music.
Gogol Bordello
Gogol Bordello took their time making an appearance. They didn’t take the stage until almost 10:30 pm. However, the club curfew wasn’t until 1 am so there was no need to hurry. Carrying a bottle of wine, Eugene Hutz waved to the eager fans waiting in the front row. All seven members of the band took their spots and the show kicked off. Never staying still for more than a few seconds, these musicians delivered a set of over 25 songs and kept the party going past midnight.
The crowd rolled and swayed as fans danced and moshed throughout every song. I have seen Gogol Bordello four times now and I must say, that they were at the top of their game this show.
