If there is a band that embodies the purest form of rock and roll, it is Greta Van Fleet. They returned to Baltimore to play the MECU Pavillon for a sold out crowd. As I walked from my car to the show, it reminded me of the feeling I had when I was 18 going to a concert. The line to get in went around the block, people setting up chairs on the sidewalk, vendors selling bootleg shirts. Everything about this show was pure rock and roll.
I was so excited to see such young crowd at a show like this. When Greta Van Fleet took the stage, the crowd was so loud you could not here what Josh Kiszka was announcing. However, the band quickly broke into the song, “The Cold Wind”, and you knew these boys are for real.
Josh Kiszka struts around the stage with the presence of Freddie Mercury and mystery of David Bowie wrapped in one. Let me be very clear this is not a throwback band. Their music is for this time and this generation.
The band is very tight, with a hint of dirty rock and roll. The sound that Jake Kiszka gets out of the guitar makes every hair stand up on your arms. The way bass player, Sam Kiszka and drummer, Danny Wagner, hold the beat down is telepathic. Needless to say this show is something to run out and catch, but hurry they are selling out every venue quickly.
If you have not had the pleasure of seeing Greta Van Fleet yet, be sure to catch one of their live performances! For now, enjoy these photos of Greta Van Fleet performing at MECU Pavilion on May 21st. All photos copyright and courtesy of Brandon Amos.
