Glen Hansard is a pretty talented guy. He has enjoyed a successful musical career, as well as, a touch of fame in the film industry. Hansard quit school at the age of 13 and formed his own band in Ireland in 1990, The Frames. He spent the 90’s and early 2000’s focused on The Fames as well as appearing in a few movies and TV dramas.
Admittedly, I did not discover Glen Hansard until his work with Swell Season. In 2006, he joined forces with Czech singer Marketa Irglova, Marja Tuhkanen, and Bertrand Galen and together they produced three albums as Swell Season. I had the pleasure of seeing Hansard in Swell Season at Newport Folk Festival twice and loved his performance.
Since 2012, Glen Hansard has focused primarily on a solo career. He did release an album with his band, The Frames in 2015, entitled Longitude, their first album together in 10 years. As a solo artist, Hansard has released 4 full length albums. His most recent release, This Wild Willing was released in April of this year.
Hansard has been on tour supporting this new release since March. His tour has included mostly European cities. However, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and of course…D.C. are fortunate to have stops along his tour. Photographer, Anthony Mulcahy, photographed the show Friday night in Philadelphia. You can see a few of his photographs from this show, here. Glen Hansard will be closing out his short tour in America this Monday at The Lincoln Theatre in D.C. You don’t want to miss this amazingly talented musician. Pick your tickets up for the show this Monday, June 3 here.
