The reality of racism in this country is a hard pill to swallow. However, Gary Clark Jr’s newest single, “This Land”, the title track to his third studio album for Warner Bros. Records, reminds us that it something we need to address. This song powerfully brings to light that racism is a plague that just won’t seem to go away. It really struck a chord with me. Admittedly, I will never know what it is like to live as a black man in this country. However, I do know we need to have very honest dialogue about who we are. We need to appreciate every ethnic background in this melting pot.
“This Land” delivers an unapologetic look at a relevant social issue in our country. This video may be unsettling; however, it is very reflective and one must consider what Gary Clark Jr. has experienced to write such powerful lyrics. I am thankful that he wrote such a powerful, guitar heavy song with lyrics that bring attention to a problem that needs to be addressed.
Gary Clark Jr. will be visiting D.C. on March 30, performing at The Anthem. You can purchase your tickets here. Every full priced ticket purchased for this tour includes a choice of a standard CD or digital copy of Gary’s new album to be released on March 1. In the meantime, watch the official music video of “This Land”.
