Duff McKagan played at DC’s City Winery recently and I was there taking photos. McKagan’s performance at the intimate venue took place the day his new solo album, Tenderness, was released. The show was opened by Shooter Jennings. Jennings and his band also performed as McKagan’s band.
After a short, but well received performance by Shooter Jennings, Duff McKagan took the stage and played all 11 songs off his new solo album. McKagan surprised the crowd with covers of Guns-N-Roses deep cuts “You Ain’t the First,” “Dust N Bones,” and “Dead Horse.” McKagan also played awesome versions of Guns-N-Roses’ “Patience,” Mad Season’s “River of Deceit,” as well as, David Bowie’s “Rock n Roll Suicide.”
This was a sold out show for Jennings and McKagan. The crowd was fairly quiet, but obviously attentive and just as moved by the songs as I was. The songs on McKagan’s new album definitely sound more country/folk/singer-songwriter than punk/metal/hard rock. The album is produced by Shooter Jennings and his influence is evident.
