DC 101 is treating fans to a TWO night concert at The Anthem – the DC 101-derland. This past Tuesday, night 1 kicked off featuring Winnetka Bowling League, lovelytheband, and Cage the Elephant. The night was amazing from start to finish! Here’s a look at Night 1 of the DC 101-derland:
Winnetka Bowling League
Kicking off the full night of music was Los Angeles based Winnetka Bowling League. The band is the creation of duo musicians, Matthew Koma and Dan Book. Both artists have written and produced music for several years; however, they have only recently come together to form the band. The band has been touring in support of their latest release, Cloudy with a Chance of Sun which came out earlier this year. For their set at The Anthem, the band performed 8 songs and really set the tone for the night! Check out the video below of their performance at The Anthem!
lovelytheband
April of 2018, DC 101 hosted the Blossom Bash at The Anthem and lovelytheband was the first on the bill. This was the first time I had heard of this band and quickly became a fan. DC 101 features their songs on the radio and they have quickly gained a devoted following. Many in the audience expressed that they were there to see lovelytheband just as much as the headlining act, Cage the Elephant. The band admitted that they had just taken a break from touring and were enjoying some peace and quiet at home in California; however, they were happy to come out to D.C. to play for us! They performed a 9-song set featuring all their hits, a fun cover of My Chemical Romance’s hit song, “Teenagers”, and a new song, “Loneliness for Love” which comes out next month! Check out this new song that they performed The Anthem:
Cage the Elephant
Headlining the evening was Cage the Elephant. The D.C. area has had the opportunity to catch Cage the Elephant three times over the last year. I had the pleasure of photographing them last fall at the grand opening of St. Elizabeth’s East Entertainment and Sports Area and then this past summer at Merriweather Post Pavilion where they performed a dynamic set despite a thunderstorm delay.
Cage the Elephant’s performance at the DC 101-derland was fantastic! They performed a 21-song NON STOP set, keeping us rocking until nearly 11:30 PM on a Tuesday night! Just like their performance earlier this summer, Matt Schultz bounded onto stage in layers (and layers) of clothing, gradually peeling off the clothes while jumping, rolling, and singing throughout every song. Shultz never fails to engaged the crowd and his performance included a “walk” on the crowd accompanied by a sea of red confetti!
Check out Cage the Elephant performing “Mess Around” (with an amazing laser light show) and “Trouble” (featuring a crowd sing-a-long).
Night 2 of DC 101-derland will feature White Reaper, Shaed, Cold War Kids, and Mumford & Sons. Night 2 is sold out, sadly – but you can visit DC 101’s website for photos and updates during the show!
