Grammy-nominated guitarist, bassist, composer, producer, podcast host, guitar teacher, and variety show creator Cory Wong has a lot on his plate. But what he does best is play hype man and conductor on stage with very talented musicians surrounding him. On Feb 24th, he’ll be doing that on stage in Philly at The Fillmore with Victor Wooten – one of the greatest bass players of all-time – joining him as a special guest.
Wong’s sound leans heavily into the funk/jazz/rock/soul/ disco sounds of the 70’s while still remaining fresh and not dated.
In WXPN’s backyard, led by Wong and his Fender guitar, backed by a horn section, organ player, drummer and Wooten’s bass playing, this is sure to be one Funky Friday. I can only hope to see Dan Reed and retired Funky Friday host David Dye dancing around The Fillmore.
Opening for Cory Wong is three-piece female band Trousdale from Los Angeles. Check out their tight, melodic harmonies in the video below.
