Cold War Kids at 930 Club

Fans were wrapped around the building and down the corner awaiting Cold War Kids and Overcoats show at 9:30 Club, Despite the rain and frigid temperatures.

It was a packed night as things were sold out and for good reason. Things started off with the colorful and cheery Overcoats. Immediately upon taking the stage everyone in the club fell silent due to how great they sounded. After 3 or so songs into the set their humor and charisma takes the forefront and leaves the whole club with a collective ear to ear grin. Towards the end of their set they try to figure out what song to cover and almost settle on Marvin Gaye’s “Lets Get It On.” Watching them struggle with trying to play various songs for about 5 minutes was entertaining and equally humorous.

Overcoats lifted everyone’s expectations and gave everyone a good show and Cold War Kids came on and absolutely blew everyone and everything out of the water. Within the first 2 songs I was so in awe trying to get photos. Even some of the parent chaperones couldn’t help but dance. They opened the set with a few songs off their new album which combine their classic elemental songwriting with a couple catchy piano hooks. As the night went on they played a mixture of fan favorites from previous albums and some newer things. The crowd absolutely ate up their gracious love towards 9:30 and the DC music scene as well.

Cold War Kids played a sold out Ottobar, we were there as well, only about a month ago and tore the house down there as well. It’s safe to say wherever Cold War Kids goes they’re non-apologetically tearing down houses and leaving crowds of all ages speechless with their amazing musicianship and prodigious stage presences.
