Carlie Hanson – is truly the next big thing. Before she was singed to Warner Bros. Records earlier this year, Carlie was getting a lot of attention from her self-released singles on Spotify. At only 18, she went from living a typical teenage life in the Midwest with her family to a recording and touring artist living alone in LA. Her latest single, “Numb”, caught our attention and Brandon had a chance to chat with her about her musical influences, her experiences on tour, and new music she plans to release!
While most younger artists are discovered on YouTube, Carlie posted a cover on Instagram and was discovered in 2016 when she was just 16. She shared that she always wanted to sing: “My mom says that I first sang when I was three. I sang “I’m a Survivor” by Destiny’s Child.” When Brandon asked if she listened to Destiny’s Child growing up, she laughed: “I don’t even know why that’s the song I was singing because I don’t even listen to them that much! I loved Justin Bieber and One Direction… but the first concert I ever been to was a Disturbed concert. So I have a lot of rock in me. That’s because of my mom. Pearl Jam is another one. Nirvana is another huge inspiration to me.”
Carlie also shared her experience of being on tour. She shared that Europe was definitely a memorable experience. She recently returned from overseas on a tour with Yungblud and she shared why she enjoyed her European tour so much: “Europe is an all-around different experience than touring in America, from what I’ve noticed. The fans are so more engaged to the opener. Like right now [on tour], I kinda have to win the crowd over every time I go out on stage. But like, Europe, the are very engaged straight away and that’s very refreshing.”
Well, Carley… we love our opening performers!
